• A verifiable track record of providing personal care including bathing assistance, grooming, oral care and feeding support of those who may need it.
• Ability to take and record vital signs – blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse.
• Able to turn and reposition people to prevent skin breakdown.
• Recognize and observe peoples’ physical and emotional conditions.
• Skilled in performing light housekeeping, preparing meals, changing linen and making up the bed.
• Proven ability to develop effective relationships with people including fellow workers.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate the supported persons needs and strive to fulfil them.
• Compassionate nature and positive attitude.
• Able to work well under stress.
• Excellence in oral and written communication.
• Exceptional skills in organizing and prioritizing work.
• Strong record keeping skills.
• Ability to apply critical thinking in emergency situations.
• Ability to staying calm in difficult situations.
• CPR and First Aid Certified.
• Excellent time and household management skills.
• Ability to work calmly in difficult situations.
• Computer skills: MS Word and MS Excel, Internet use and researching, Email use.
• Current Driver’s license for the appropriate state.

  • Could the applicant –

• Determined a persons condition/s by studying their files and developed plans to assist or will they need training and directives.
• Provided support in maintaining personal hygiene by helping with bathing, dressing and toileting.
• Ascertained if home spaces are kept clean and sanitized with a view to keep diseases at bay.
• Prepare healthy and suitable food items, according to individual health and nutrition needs and helped if required to partake their meals.
• Provided emotional support by listening to grievances and provided counseling and support.

How proficient is the applicant in providing personal and practical support to people with a wide range of illnesses and or disabilities.
• Are they familiar with providing assistance with mobility, incontinence and hygiene management.
• Can they support mental and physical activities by engaging people in conversation and encouraging them to participate in recreational activities.
• How qualified are they in providing support and education to people and families regarding home care and assistance.
